I'm Not My Fuckin' Audios, Bro.

This post was inspired by this tweet by @VoiceLikeCandy and also my own DMs and comments.

It starts off simply enough.

I create a scenario (or I'm sent a prompt or script), and then lock myself in my closet studio and record it. I polish it up, post it, and go about my merry business.

And then it happens.

Like an avalanche of bullshit, the messages begin.

How could you make something like this?

Cheating is CRINGE, you should be ashamed.

You must be an awful person to be ok with making audios like this.

I even once had a man send me an audio file of himself vigorously masturbating while he explained to me that he could tell from my audio that I'm "a born slut, through and through".

See, here's the fuckin' thing, my guy -

I'm acting. We're all acting.

Do you really think I'm playing MYSELF in audios? Why the hell would I do that? Part of the draw for me is getting to experience something wildly different from my real life and react in ways I never actually would. I have to be myself 24/7, it's fun to go be someone else for 20 minutes. Sure, some of my content is stuff I genuinely enjoy, but especially for the darker stuff, that's not who I really am.

I promise you I'm not actually cheating. I'm not gonna kidnap you and take you to a cabin in the woods.

I'm not really gonna fuck my stepbrother (I don't even HAVE one).

I see this happening a lot online, especially over the past few years. I'm positive a lot of it comes from kinkshaming - I've seen people calling voice actors out for performing harder kinks like [incest] and [rape] and acting like because those folks wrote or voiced something dark that it means they're actually like that IRL. Simmer the fuck down on that, OK? There are absolutely real predators in the ASMR/VA communities - NOT just in the NSFW realm, plenty of SFW creepos out there too - and those people should definitely be tossed into the trash from whence they came (or jailed in some cases), but for the most part people who indulge in darker audio content are the sweetest, kindest, most non-lethal human beings you could ever come across.

I get that some kinks are extreme and online communities have had to limit the type of posts they allow (here's lookin' at you, snuff tag), but if we could quit shitting on performers for, you know, PERFORMING THE JOB THEY WERE HIRED TO DO, that would be fuckin' mint. If it offends you, don't consume it. If it triggers you, don't consume it. If it upsets you in any way, shape, or form?

Don't consume it.

You're not gonna like every single thing someone creates, and that's ok. But you don't need to be an asshole about it. Most people I know are meticulous about tagging their audios appropriately so you know what you're getting into BEFORE you hit play. So if you don't like it, move along.

Just some food for thought.
